There are a lot of restaurants on Ao Nang beach. I mean seriously there are  A LOT. You can find all types of cuisines here. There is a noticeable dominance in Indian cuisine. I particularly enjoyed this since it’s hard to find South Indian cuisine in Chiang Mai. It’s a little surprising that there aren’t more veggie restaurants here, especially given that so many Indians obviously do visit, but this wonderful place was enough for us. Govinda’s was the shining star in the sky.

It is a very informal, family-run establishment and the owners are very sweet and super-friendly. Their whole family is just so adorable. They run the place with the most efficiency and gusto that you can imagine.

It is a small place, cosy and intimate. The food changes most days and they will have their dishes on display for you to choose from. No onion or garlic is used. Some dishes contain cheese or dairy, these will be clearly indicated. About 80% of the dishes are vegan including delicious vegan cheesecakes and cupcakes.

The main dishes are quite unique, some even have a Southern American influence which is where I believe this family are from. There is a soy burger, wraps and some Indian dishes as well. Just be adventurous when it comes to choosing. They will be happy to talk you through what they offer as well. The dishes taste great and they’re healthy too!

Govinda’s is a truly special place and we hope that we will find ourselves in this part of Thailand again so we can come and visit this gem of an eatery for every meal.
