Happy Mushroom is so much more than what it might first seem. It is just a humble market stall with a few stools around for eating in. It is situated within Ruam Chok fresh market on the Mee Chok intersection heading to Mae Jo. To spot it, look out for the yellow flags.
Look closer and you might find yourself amazed at what Yupin manages to cook up. Firstly there are a few pre-made buffet dishes that you can choose from as well as an entire menu page to order from. She will cook your food fresh right there in front of you at the stall while you are waiting, and she will do so very promptly. Food tastes great and portion sizes are excellent value for the menial prices that she charges. Everything is 100% vegan, no eggs or dairy at all.
My personal favourites are the laab or any of the tasty somtam varieties. No MSG used and coconut oil is used for cooking. As well as Thai food, she also sometimes has Burmese dishes – Yupin herself is originally from Burma.
As well as all this she also has desserts available such as fully vegan (of course) coconut ice-cream. There are also often homemade vegan cakes available by the slice. Usually around just 20 BAHT a slice!
Lots of people seem to know about this cool little place as it gets very busy around lunchtime when most of the pre-made food will start to sell out. You can still order dishes right up until when she closes which is not until the evening.
It’s a bit out of town but if you live or work around this area you might find yourself becoming one of the regular frequenters who seem to thoroughly enjoy the food here.
