This local, Thai style restaurant and shop has to be one of the best that I have found so far in the whole of Thailand. I make a special trip here every time I pass through Khon Kaen. I even make sure I stop at Khon Kaen, just so that I can visit this restaurant. Yes, it really is that good.
The food selection is so amazing it’s like nothing I’ve seen before. I usually walk in to the Thai style stores to find one little old lady approach me and ask which of the three dishes I would like. Here, the counter was so huge that there needed to be about four or five workers to serve the food. You will be so spoilt for choice. I have tried to capture the selection in the pictures below, although I’m not sure if I have done it justice. There is a huge array of freshly cooked vegan dishes as well as fresh organic salads, somtam, hot snacks such as spring rolls and all kinds of soups. There are about three fridges full of juices and desserts and they even have free salad and an entire fruit shake counter. To top it all off there is even a freezer full of vegan ice-cream! Now you might understand why I was so blown away.
As with all Thai style restaurants it opens at about 7:30 AM food is only served until 2.30 PM, althoughif you go later in the day they sell what they haven’t sold bagged up at a discounted price. Go early if you want the best options. Go later if you want cheaper options. It is already very cheap and you can sit within the restaurant to eat or take it away. They also have an organic produce section for you to take and cook at home.
Finally, allow yourself enough time to have a look round their shop afterwards which has everything that you would expect a health shop to have including cooking ingredients, dried foods, canned food, herbal medicines, snacks, books and more. Just be aware that some items in this section contain milk derivatives/honey, the only fault we can find with this wonderful restaurant.
You might not have any other reason to visit Khon Kaen but this restaurant alone makes it worth one!
