Vegan Heaven was Chiang Mai’s first western style fully vegan restaurant. It was long time overdue. Although there are countless veggie restaurants serving vegan food, this was the first place to open that is western style (sit down and order) with a fully vegan menu, no dairy, eggs, or honey in the menu at all. We are glad that they started the trend as since then others have opened up and other veggie restaurants have switched to vegan. There are now 10 in total.
This restaurant is a sister branch of the nearby Taste From Heaven and has the same ownership. The menu is very similar except that all dairy and egg items are eliminated completely and they have vegan alternatives such as tofu instead of scrambled egg, vegan chicken, vegan hot dog, vegan cheese, etc. The menu is large and has lots of Thai and Western dishes to choose from including classic fry up breakfasts and even waffles with ice-cream. All vegan of course and they also offer vegan condiments such as vegan mayo. Prices are cheap, especially for the centre of town.
The actual restaurant is nothing fancy but a one unit type place about half way down Loi Kroh road. It is similar in style to the sister branch – a mini-version of the same. It’s clean and modern with some funky colours and some famous veggie quotes decorating the place just like the other branch. A few months later, they also opened another branch on Moon Muang Soi 9! All details are the same except that the restaurant is maybe slightly smaller and less busy. This branch was formally Karma Kitchen.
Despite the huge menu, we don’t particularly find the dishes anything at Vegan Heaven to get that excited about. Apart from one exception which is the chocolate brownie. It is amazing. Gorgeous taste, only 60 BAHT and the size of a brick. Get it with ice-cream and share with a friend!
