Kin Lum is a rather small, modest, simply designed cafe style place just infront of the Empress Hotel off of Chang Khlan Road. The establishment is clean and modern but so white and plain it is almost clinical. It isn’t the nicest environment for a relaxing meal but there are many other positives to this little place.
The food is not pre-prepared but made to order from a menu. The menu is actually pretty impressive as they cover a very wide variety of both Thai and Western dishes some of which are rare and interesting such as the tofu steak and chips. The brown rice salad is a fantastic, healthy dish which comes in three different sizes. All of the food is mostly vegan, just some of the dishes have the option of added egg or cheese.
Not sure why this place is often empty but at least you never have to wait. The food is fresh and good and the sweet lady who makes it is very accommodating. Unfortunately they don’t sell alcohol here, although you can go and buy it and bring it in. They do use plastic straws which we feel is a bit disappointing with all the alternatives available now these days.
Generally, this place is worth a visit if you are in this neck of the woods as all the other ones that are on Chang Khlan close much earlier. In fact, I would even say that it is deserving of a special trip out here as it’s actually preferable to some of the more famous ones that are in town.
