A few years ago there were no strictly vegan restaurants in Chiang Mai and going back even further there were not many vegetarian restaurants either. I know it probably seems hard to believe now but many moons ago it really was like that. Taste from Heaven was one of the first ones to open. The restaurant established itself very nicely and it was once of the best places for a vegan to eat in the city.

Despite at least one location change, Taste from Heaven has otherwise not changed much. They have an extensive Thai menu with plenty of western options as well. It includes everything ranging from starters, salads, curries, soups, desserts, breakfasts, burgers, fruit shakes and coffees to cakes and booze. Unlike their sister branch, Vegan Heaven, they are not entirely vegan, although you will find that every dish can at least be made vegan by request.

This branch is right on Ratchamanaka Road near Thapae Gate. There are several veggie restaurants in the area to choose from but that doesn’t stop this place from being so busy at certain times that you might even have to wait for a table. It deserves it’s popularity.

As a vegan, you might not see any point in visiting here when you can visit either of their nearby sister branches which have a vegan version of everything in the menu but it’s certainly handy to know about. Especially if you want to experience one of the truly original restaurants.
