There are many branches of this supermarket in the city, four main branches and various other smaller branches usually found within shopping malls or plazas. Check out their website for exact addresses. Rimping sells everything including dairy and meat, but I have been have able to find specialist vegan products as well as the things that you miss from back home such as imported plant milks, Marmite, etc. They are especially useful for finding goods for home cooking such as large packs of nuts and seeds, wheat germ, job’s tears, various beans, chick peas, quinoa, gluten free flour and more. I have even found things like raw vegan cake here before. But be aware that it is over-priced. Visit their website to find your nearest store.
Vegetarian Thai Restaurants
Most of the Thai style vegetarian restaurants have products for sale such as textured soy protein, cooking sauces, dried snacks and much more. Always check the ingredients, especially on the fake meats as they sometimes contain egg and soya milk sometimes even has milk! The Vegetarian Society has a particularly good shop on site with a huge range of extremely cheap items.
Good Health
There are a number of health stores around the city and this is a particularly good one that is in a central location, at 48/4-5 Sridonchai Road, Hay ya Muang Chiang Mai, (close to Pantip Plaza.) They sell absolutely everything that you could need for your cooking including pastes, oils, seeds, nuts, cereals, coffees, teas, snacks and much more. They also sell a range cosmetic products such as herbal shampoos, soaps and even make-up. They have a huge range of herbal teas. They also sell incense, burning oils etc. Almost everything is vegetarian if not vegan (but always check.)
The Royal Project
The Royal Project is a pesticide-free farm produce development that was initiated by his majesty the King some forty years ago which gives livelihood to the Chiang Mai hill tribe people who were previously making their income from opium production, which the Royal Project replaced. There are several branches of Royal Project Shops, but you can also simply look out for their produce label, which is sold all over Chiang Mai. Their range of fruit and vegetables is particularly good and not too expensive for pesticde-free produce.
